    Description

RARE Turn of the Century Brass Baseball Uniform Belt Buckles-
Offered UNIQUE and VERY RARE early 1900s all thin brass 2 piece belt buckle with very ornate baseball raised images of bats, hats, bases, balls and high top "spikes." A manufactures mark J GMINDER is embossed on on piece.  One piece 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 rectangular in shape with place on one end to insert belt and opening in the middle.  The other irregular shape with same type of belt opening. Both pieces in mint condition and I think unused.
Research has found that Jacob Gminder was born in Reutlingen, Wuertemberg. He came to America in 1849 and entered the business of his uncle, who was a manufacturer of medals and uniforms for lodges and military organizations.  Jacob Gminder advertised in the 1887 Brewery Souvenir book on page 56 that the company, located at 12 S. Calvert Street Baltimore manufactured and imported swords, belts, sashes and regalia for Knights Templer, Odd Fellows, etc.  They advertised a complete stock for military organizations.  The ad stated Silber-Platterer. (german for silver platter.
I forwarded images of this belt buckle to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown and they responded,.....
"That's a really neat piece you have. I'm not sure what else I can tell you, We do have a few belt buckles in the collection, but most are in connection to a championship or All-Star game.   I will forward your email and offer to our museum accession committee.
They will be in touch with any questions.  The Hall’s acquisitions committee will review your donation proposal on February 18th and I will get back to you after the group meets.  Thank you for thinking of us and bringing the belt buckles to our attention here in Cooperstown......."
The acquisitions committee met and decided to gratefully accept a full belt buckle (two parts) into the permanent collection. I donated one of nine I aquired
