Optika Mult-Format Film Back - 1950s RITTRECK/OPTIKA CLASSIC SLR ROLL FILM BACK!
When it was launched in 1956, the Optika IIa/Rittreck IIa was said to be the most versatile SLR camera made. You might find it difficult to find it a boast if you count all the SLRs that offer interchangeable lenses, close-up/macro functionality, interchangeable backs, the choice between shooting roll film or sheet film AND the option of four (4) formats to choose from…are you counting yet?
The item in view is a used Optika Multi-format Roll Film Back for 120 film. It originally gave you the option for 6x4.5, 6x6 or 6x7 formats using two metal inserts for the smaller frame sizes. The format masks have disappeared over the intervening years but the 6x7 roll film back is still with us and it’s available for your classic Rittreck or Optika medium format camera.
The back is fully functional. The light baffle is in excellent shape to keep your film in the dark until you expose it. The metal dark slide is in excellent condition and all the mechanicals work normally. The cosmetics are of fifty years of use and storage. There are marks and scratches in the metal. The black paint is remarkably without flaking or paint loss. There is no visible rust to be found inside or outside. The leather-look back cover is tight and solid with some marking but is intact and handsome.
This is an awesome piece. It’s not ‘pristine’ but it
IS
highly collectable.
