Jaguar XK120 Replica Assembly Manual (2 manuals in 1) Both front engine and VW based
This Assembly Manual is from Auto Design of California from San Jose, Calif. and is two manuals in one.
The manual is approximately 8 ¼” x 11” and the first 45 pages is on building the front engine XK120F replica and the last 44 pages is on building the rear engine VW based XK120R replica.
The manual doesn’t have a date on it but I think it’s from the early 1980s.
This manual is good if you own a fiberglass body that didn’t have a custom-made chassis from the factory.
The wheelbase on a Jaguar XK120 is 102”.
The wheelbase on 1953-55 Corvette and 1955-57 T-bird replicas are also 102” so this manual may be of use to more makes then the Jaguar XK120.
In the manual when selecting a chassis, they suggested using a 1970-1981 Toyota pickup with a 6’ bed with a 102” wheelbase but a Toyota pickup with a 7’ bed can be shortened to 102”.
The manual says a 20R Toyota engine found in most pick-ups makes a very fine powertrain and is comparable in performance to the original Jaguar due to the reduction in weight; however, the XK120 will except most any engine due to its large motor cavity.
The VW based XK120R fiberglass body is made to fit a standard VW Beetle of any year but 1969-1974 is the best choice.
The VW wheelbase is 94.5”.
The manual is in good condition with no writing or marks inside.
There are small teeth marks about a 1” long on the top left corner of the front and back cover.
Maybe from a baby or small cat or dog.
